Dosha
Pitru dosha
What Pitru dosha is, how it is seen in a chart, and the traditional remedies such as shraddha and tarpan.
What is Pitru dosha?
Pitru dosha is understood as unresolved karma or unfulfilled wishes of one's ancestors that show in the birth chart. It is a traditional reason given for repeated obstacles in family matters, children or progress.
How is it seen?
It is commonly linked with the Sun (father) afflicted by Rahu, Ketu or Saturn, especially in the 9th house (ancestors, father, fortune), or with Rahu in the 9th or 5th. An afflicted 9th lord is also considered.
Effects
Traditionally linked with delays in marriage or children, family disputes, and effort not giving full results. As with every dosha, it must be judged with the strength of the whole chart.
When is it milder?
It is milder when Jupiter aspects the Sun or the 9th house, when the 9th lord is strong, or when benefics occupy the 9th house.
Remedies
Perform shraddha and tarpan in Pitru Paksha and on Amavasya; offer water to the Sun daily; feed cows, crows, dogs and Brahmins; plant and water a peepal tree; recite the Pitru Stotra; and perform Narayan Bali or Tripindi Shraddha at a tirtha such as Gaya, Trimbakeshwar or Haridwar.
A single placement is never read alone: sign, aspects, conjunctions, dasha and the whole chart change the outcome.
